The technology to modulate has been available for over fifty years — but cost and size made most applications impractical. In the late 1980s, the Gas Research Institute began a wide reaching program to discover and address the issues relating to affordable modulation.  New lower-cost technologies were developed and successfully tested, but implementation required system integration across two separate industries, controls and motors.  No commercial organization existed to bridge the gap.

In 1999, GRI formed Varidigm Corporation to bring the benefits of these technologies to the HVAC industry in the way the industry requires – with simultaneous attention paid to safety, reliability, and cost effectiveness.  Employing engineers with over 300 years of combined design experience in motors and controls, and working closely with OEM design and marketing departments, Varidigm is now actively engaged in bringing the original business concept to commercial reality.
