With oil prices recently reaching almost $50 per barrel, energy efficiency has again become an important issue.  In the HVAC industry motor efficiency is receiving more and more attention.  Saving energy by purchasing a more efficient motor should be considered on all projects.  However, in addition to raw motor efficiency numbers the user should evaluate the first cost differential, the number of hours the motor will be used in a year, and the kw-hr cost of electricity.
